About this site

I need to mention several people here, because they are all - in one way or another - the starting point of this web publishing endeavor.

This website owes its name to a Charles Bukowski quote that you can find in full here. That man has a lot of great quotes, some of them - my personal favorites - I've compiled in a list (with some related stuff by other people as well). Saying that I completely identify with him would be an overstatement - I'm not an alcoholic, cig-smoking barfly or genius poet in any way - but I do relate to him on some level. I really do. (And also to Holden Caulfield.) But not too seriously, I guess. I once told a friend that Buk was my "spirit animal". That's how little serious this gets.

I've got to thank Benoît, the friend mentioned above, for being the first to suggest I publish my writings online. He wanted me to stop being a dilettante writer, and commit myself to publishing something online on a regular basis, to get the ball rolling. Because, if there's one job it needs to do, it's this : this website is here to kick ass. More specifically, to kick my own ass into writing on a regular basis and completing my creative projects. Benoît suggested that I publish on places like Royal Road, but I wasn't "feeling" it until recently.

About three days ago, we went to a local theater and watched Project Hail Mary. After the obligatory 5 minutes of online research, I found out about Andy Weir's success story as a sci-fi writer. He's the author of several books-turned-into-movies (which is what I aspire to be), and still has a personal website on which he used to publish his short stories and even his novels in serial form (which is how he launched his writing career). We're in the same lane, so I figured out I'd use the same recipe to make it in the biz :^) I'll try not to be a total copycat, though.

So the first step I took to depart from him is by making my website not look like a motherfucking man page. Its design is courtesy of html5up.net by @ajlkn. You can find the name of the exact template I used by looking at the first HTML lines of any page here. (Most of you will know this, but for those who don't, protip : use Ctrl+U on desktop, or add view-source: before the URL on mobile.) And for those who do prefer a man-page-like website, I've also made a motherfucking version here. You're welcome.
